Masterclass: I Know This Much Is True

In two episodes at Copenhagen TV festival Director/writer Derek Cianfrance dives deeply into some of the most challenging aspects of human life in his award-winning limited series for HBO, I Know This Much Is True.

This masterclass is made in cooperation with Vision Denmark.

Cianfrance burst onto the world’s stage a decade ago with the release of the acclaimed drama Blue Valentine followed, three years later, by The Place Beyond The Pines.  Known for his ability to encourage raw, vulnerable, authentic performances from his actors, I Know This Much Is True is an expansion of this practice.

I Know This Much Is True is an adaptation of the 900-page best-seller by Wally Lamb which tells the story of Dominick Birdsey and his identical twin, Thomas, who suffers from paranoid schizophrenia.  In the series, both brothers are played by Mark Ruffalo, a role for which he won an Emmy.

In this masterclass Derek Cianfrance will share details about the process of adapting the book for television, the specifics of working with the one actor in two lead roles,  and the very personal connection he has to the subject matter.

These are just some of the insights you’ll get in this year’s masterclass with Derek Cianfrance.

Also, please remember live Q&A on Teams with Derek Cianfrance and Liselott Forsman on November 24 at 15.00 CET.
