Meet Pamela Adlon: Better Things

Copenhagen TV Festival and Copenhagen Film Fund are proud to present Pamela Adlon, showrunner, director and actor behind FX's comedy-drama Better Things.

Better Things is the succesful comedy series about Pamela Adlon’s alter ego, Sam Fox, a middle-aged, single mother and working actress raising three daughters in Los Angeles. A character that you rarely see on television.

I wanted to see somebody like me. Women in my age are invisible. We could rob a bank and nobody would notice. Nothing sexy about a smelling, Jewish lady. But I made it cool again.

Pamela Adlon

With the rise of new streaming platforms and an increasing demand of tv-series we see a wider range of female main characters portrayed in tv-series these years. And also a rise of tv-series with women creators both in front and behind the camera, like for example Better Things, Insecure and SMILF

Meet Pamela Adlon and hear her thoughts about creating this autobiographical character based on her own life. This session takes a closer look at how she works, and how she manages to balance being both the actor, writer, director, producer and showrunner of this highly successful tv-series.

Better Things and Adlon's performance have been praised, and Adlon was nominated for a Primetime Emmy Award for Outstanding Lead Actress in a Comedy Series in 2017 and 2018.
