Session

More important than ever

This session will be live-translated from Danish to English by Wordly.

What is the best thing about public service broadcasting? According to DR’s incoming Content Chief, Naja Nielsen, the answer is simple: If it didn't exist, we would invent it.

After nine years as a senior executive at the BBC and SVT, Naja Nielsen is returning to Denmark to take charge of DR’s content and publishing across all genres and platforms. With experience from some of Europe’s largest public service media organizations, she does not view public service as an institution on the defensive — but as a field with great opportunities for growth and renewal.

In this keynote, Naja Nielsen shares her perspective on public service during a time of upheaval defined by technological disruption, major global platforms, and a media landscape where both attention and trust are put under pressure.

How must public service evolve to remain relevant to its audience? What does it take to build strong communities and create credible content while competing with the tech giants? And how can the media think more radically through innovation, tougher prioritization, and entirely new types of partnerships?

This session explores the future of public service and why the need for it may be greater than ever.
