Copenhagen Masterclasses proudly presents one of this year’s masterclass with writer-producer Anna Winger, who in two episodes will take us into the process of creating the acclaimed television series Unorthodox.
This masterclass is made in cooperation with Vision Denmarkand supported by Danske Filminstuktører & Danske Dramatikere.
Anna Winger is an American and British writer-producer who has lived in Berlin, Germany since 2002. She is a creator, producer and head writer of the Netflix miniseries, Unorthodox, and the Amazon trilogy, Deutschland.
Inspired by Deborah Feldman’s bestselling memoir, the Emmy Award-winning Unorthodox tells the story of a young woman from the Satmar Hasidic community in Williamsburg, Brooklyn who flees an arranged marriage to find herself. This contemporary mini-series is both a window into a little-understood religious minority and a moving depiction of one woman's rebirth—told with a thriller engine.
Winger’s Peabody and international Emmy Award-winning Deutschland trilogy follows a young East German sent west undercover as a spy for the Stasi, during the last days of the GDR, in the 1980s. A coming of age story wrapped in a spy plot and set against the backdrop of real history, its third and final season, Deutschland89, launched this fall.
Copenhagen TV Festival Masterclasses dives into Anna Winger's experiences creating, writing and producing both series.
Also, please remember live Q&A on Teams with Anna Winger and Vinca Wiedemann on November 24 at 13.00 CET.
