BBC's Content Strategy

Few broadcasters have shaped the idea of public service quite like the BBC. Known for its commitment to quality, credibility, and broad cultural reach, the BBC remains a benchmark for public media across Europe — including Denmark. At this year’s Copenhagen TV Festival, BBC’s Chief Content Officer, Kate Phillips, will share her perspective on the evolving role of public service content.

In a time of rapid change — shifting audiences, fierce competition from global platforms, and political pressure on funding models — how can public service media stay relevant, trusted, and creatively ambitious? And what can other broadcasters learn from the BBC’s experience navigating these changes?

In this session, Kate Phillips offers insights from inside one of the world’s most influential media institutions. She will discuss the BBC’s current content strategies and reflect on some of its bold programming decisions — from The Traitorsand Gladiators to Destination X and the upcoming UK adaptation of the Danish format Stranded on Honeymoon Island.

Join us for a conversation on how the BBC continues to evolve its content offering — and what public service broadcasting can and should look like in 2025.
