Per Ödling is a professor of telecommunication at Lund university and a member of the board of the Swedish National Council of Adult Education (Folkbildningsrådet). He leads the world’s only academic research group embedded in Ericsson, with a focus on 5G-research. When he was the secretary to the Royal Swedish Academy of Engineering Sciences he started working on understanding the interdependence between technology and democracy. He has since contributed to a number of book chapters and given about a hundred presentations on democracy, digitisation, rural development and lack of hope. A particular topic of interest is media’s role in preserving democracy and strategies for staying relevant in the new media landscape.
